Lesson Plan (Math)

Page history last edited by PBworks 4 years, 6 months ago

A lesson plan is your plan for a day of class.

Sample lesson plan

The following is a sample of a lesson plan for a two-hour class. This sample lesson plan is designed to help you meet the evaluation criteria for faculty.

  1. Write day's agenda on the board.
  2. Begin class with warm-up exercises, review exercises, or a quiz on the prior day's material.
  3. Return graded homework, quizzes, etc. within two weeks of when you collected them. (This is one of your evaluation criteria.)
  4. State the student learning objectives for the day. (This is one of your evaluation criteria.)
  5. Cycle between the following four activities:
    1. Lecture on new material for no more than ten minutes.
    2. Give the students a problem or two for group work; think, pair, & share; etc.
    3. Assess student learning, e.g. by observing group work, asking students to put their work on the board, or by giving students a one-problem quiz. (This is one of your evaluation criteria.)
    4. Modifiy your teaching strategy as necessary, e.g. by trying a different approach if students are having trouble, or skipping ahead if the class demonstrates thorough understanding.
  6. Summarize the main points of the day.
  7. Use a classroom assessment technique, e.g. a "muddiest point" paper, to get student feedback on how the class went.
