-
Begin class with warm-up exercises, review exercises, or a quiz on the prior day's material.
-
Return graded homework, quizzes, etc. within two weeks of when you collected them. (This is one of your evaluation criteria.)
-
State the student learning objectives for the day. (This is one of your evaluation criteria.)
-
Cycle between the following four activities:
-
Lecture on new material for no more than ten minutes.
-
Give the students a problem or two for group work; think, pair, & share; etc.
-
Assess student learning, e.g. by observing group work, asking students to put their work on the board, or by giving students a one-problem quiz. (This is one of your evaluation criteria.)
-
Modifiy your teaching strategy as necessary, e.g. by trying a different approach if students are having trouble, or skipping ahead if the class demonstrates thorough understanding.
