It is the duty of the duty of the department chair to coordinate the preparation and submission of class schedules to the dean.

Schedule drafts

There are three drafts of each semester's schedule. The due dates for the drafts are on the department chair resources page.

In the math department, we try to finalize sections, times, days, and rooms in time for the first draft. We try to finalize staffing with current full-time and adjunct professors in time for the second draft. We try to hire new faculty and assign them classes in time for the third draft.

Overloads

According to state law and Article 20.4.2.2 of the UF contract [Nov 2007], adjunct (i.e. part-time) faculty are limited to a total load of 60% within the district during the Fall and Spring semesters. There is no contractual limit during the Summer semester. However, adjunct faculty may be granted waivers to exceed the 60% limit no more than twice in any six consecutive semesters (counting Fall and Spring only).

According the Article 8.5 of the UF contract [Nov 2007], full-time faculty are limited to an maximum load of 150%, which may be averaged over two semesters (Fall, Spring).
