Math Department agendas
Present: Julie, Tue, Pat, Ryan, Michael, Poku, Mara, A’kilah, Mike V.
I. Announcements
Harvard has requested we be part of a Calculus study, which is looking at high school math experience and math performance. Julie and Ryan agreed to participate.
Mike V. stated he is not responsible for ordering the department supplies. Julie will contact Sandi or Margaret to see if they will do this for us. Others disagree with Mike and think this is included in his responsibilities.
Julie agreed to lead the math 12 assessment team. Tue, Myra, A’kilah, and Poku are the fulltime faculty on the math 34 team. Poku will consider being the team lead.
II. Action Items
Michael motioned, A’kilah 2nd to vote on the testing center change with the exception of allowing small numbers of make up exams and small numbers of students needing more time on an exam to be allowed in the testing center. It passed with the following results:
Yes – A’kilah, Michael, Pat, Mara, Ryan
No – Tue
Abstain – Julie, Tue
Math 40 was tabled to the next meeting because some people did not read the COOR yet.
Math 50 conversations are still happening so this will be voted on at another time.
Our next department meeting will be on Wednesday, October 28th.
