I. Announcements
There will be an upcoming TLC position vote in Academic Senate.
The teacher preparation learning community would like to block seats in math 12, 25, and 30 for the 1st two weeks of priority registration.
Math DE looked at the math 7 COOR this week which brought up a larger philosophical issue regarding what does it mean to be proficient (math 4, 7, 9). This will be put on a future agenda item for discussion.
Campus DE is looking at research around learning communities and creating a rubric to assess them.
George Sabaggha is retiring. Mara will plan a going away party for him in December.
II. Action Items
Julie motioned to approve the math 125 COOR and it passed unanimously. Mara motioned to approve the math 130 COOR and it passed unanimously.
III. Discussion Items
COOR updates
25 - Tue will send out the final version. Brentwood opposes voting. The authors feel we have reached a place where we will agree to disagree.
30 – waiting to see what happens with 25
40 – Mara sent feedback to A’kilah to send to Jill?
50 – Jill gave Julie feedback
60,70,80 – will see what happens with 50
75 - ?
4 – Jeannine will send us and BW the next version
26 – will be put on the DE calendar
Committee updates
Testing Center Policy – needs one more meeting before they send something out to the department
Challenge Exams – working on the 30 exam
Math 32 – Jule and Mara are working on this class geared towards teachers
Scheduling - The spring schedule is almost complete. We have 3 unstaffed sections left. We were asked to drop two classes.
Next week we will meet in committee groups. Our next department meeting will be on Wednesday, October 14th.
