April 29, 2009 Minutes

Announcements

            Jeannine received the honor’s interim position.  Congratulations!

            We have extra lab hours.  Please send your requests to A’kilah by Friday.

            Tue will send out the new adjunct staffing policy.  It has already been sent to District.

Action Items

Math 12 COOR

Brentwood approved. The COOR passed unanimously. 

            The Math 26 COOR needs to be updated with the slo’s in the same way so we did not vote.

Discussion Items

·         The department agreed to inactivate Math 15 and 18.  Julie will do research over the summer for Math 7 options.  Occ. Ed. wants more information on our Math 9 before giving us their recommendation for Math 7. Michael agreed to talk to them and will report back.

·         Pat voiced concerns about competing with Brentwood and other colleges for adjuncts to request classes.  It was brought that Pittsburg has a larger number of classes to staff and more fulltime faculty which can make the process slower.  Pat will talk to management about the possibility of matching the class offering times with Brentwood.

·         Jim voiced concerns about scheduling lab hours through the wiki.  Michael Norris suggested sending out a pre-message letting faculty know when the wiki would be available to sign up.  Other suggestions made were to have fulltimers sign up for their lab hours when they pick their classes and package the adjuncts lab hours with their classes.  Mike believes the system is working fairly well and the pre-message should suffice.
