Curriculum
  • Do we want to accept the AB or BC AP Calc exam for LMC college credit, and /or as meeting the math requirement for the LMC AA and/or as course credit for Math 40?
    • (According to Marie Karp, CSUEB (and others) accept a 3 on the AP calc exam (AB or BC) as precalculus course equivalency and for 3 units for area B4.) If so, what score?
    • Marie Karp is reconsidering her recommendation for the LMC equivalent course of Math 40 for a score of 3 on the Calculus AP exam. She was intending that a score of 3, if not considered equivalent to Math 50, would be considered as the prerequisite for Math 50, and also meet the Math competency for the degree. She thinks that actually giving credit for Math 40 for a score of 3 may not be helpful for LMC students. Additionally, she thinks the AP Calculus course and exam covers the topic of Calculus, not pre-calculus, and therefore may not be equivalent. She sees that four-year universities have varying policies of subject credit for AP exams in Calculus, and she has asked our UC representatives for their input.  She thinks the thoughts and discussion of the Math department on this would be essential.
      • Do we want to reconsider our requirement of a score of 4 for course equivalency for Math 50?
        • According to Marie Karp CSUEB accepts a 3 on AB or BC version of Calc AP for course equivalency for Calc I, ?
