Announcement & reports

  • Math 34 assessment retreats: Due Fall 2008 (MS, P)
  • COoR updates:  75 (JSa, EH); 40 (postponed)
  • Math Summer 2008 unstaffed classes hire two new adjuncts, assuming A'kilah gives up a Math 12 (EH)
  • Box in math lab for math text donations to Africa
  • Mail service: we will get a memo from Bruce Cutler when mail service to & from the math building begins 
  • Update on keys
  • Deans, chairs, and counselors notified last week. Change Accuplacer so that students will get a recommendation of Math 4, 7, or 9 instead of 1, 2. (MS, MN, EH, JSt, Clint Ryan) . Assessments begin in April.

Sched / Policy

Packaging lab hours with Math 25: the DE committee recommended packaging two lab hours with Math 25 sections that cannot be packaged with other courses (action item). Approved.

 

Check load and health benefits for adjuncts. (EH)

Amend Math dept policies: current policy does not mention distribution of extra lab hours (discussion item). Committee will work on a proposal to bring back to the department (EH, AM, P, PW)

 
Facilities

Move some computers from testing room (MA1-107) to quiet lab (MA1-106) and to other locations? Tue will work on this. Julie suggested scheduling some computer class time (e.g. Math 12) in MA2-203. (Approved)

 

Or, just swap the functions (and some chairs & tables) of the testing room and the quiet lab. (Rejected, but we could revist later if necessary).

 
Curriculum

Curriculum committee: new rep needed (Jeannine is unavailable) A'kilah will take the math slot on curriculum committee, and we will ask curriculum committee to find a new liberal arts representative.

 
Curriculum

Course outline for  Math 35: 35 draft 2008 01-23. Too many topics (e.g. game theory, decision making, Markov chains)? MN and P will check assist.org and attempt to model the PSLO's, CSLO's more after the form of the Math 34 COoR.
