Giving a module test
- Find the student's folder. Folders should be arranged alphabetically by last name.
- Get the appropriate module test.
- Check the student's folder to see if the student has taken a test on this particular module before. If the student has taken the test once before, be sure that you choose a different form for the next try. We have several forms for each test. The different forms are color coded. All forms are the same length and the same level of difficulty. If the student has tested on a particular module two or more times, check with the professor before giving out another test.
- No PARTIAL TESTS are to be given by tutors.
- Mark the test form (i.e. A,B,C,D) on the student's record sheet.
- Leave the folder OUT of the boxes so we know who is taking a test.
- Direct the student to carrels to take a test: scratch paper is allowed on any test. A calculator is allowed on all tests unless otherwise noted by the professor.
- Check with the professor before handing-out a final exam. Most professors want to talk with the student before a final exam. Some professorswant to personally hand out all final exams. Even if you are not authorized by the professor to give out final exams, it is helpful if you remind the student to show all work in a NEAT and ORGANIZED manner since this is the only test where partial credit is given. Remind the student that the final exam can only be taken once and must be finished in one sitting.
Correcting a module test
- The professor must correct all FINAL exams.
- On module tests, CLEARLY mark each answer on the test so a student knows which answers are correct and which are wrong. E.g.: āCā for correct, āxā for wrong.
- If a student earns at least 90% for Math 1 or 2, or at least 85% for Math 12, the student has PASSED the module
- Date and initial the student's record sheet. (My initials, EH, are used in these examples)
Module 5 B 1/7/02 EH
- Write "PASS 1-7-02 EH" on the student's test paper.
- Let the student correct any mistakes.
- Put test paper AND scratch paper in the student's folder.
- Put the student's folder back in the file box.
- If less than 90% for Math 1 or 2, or less than 85% for Math 12, the student has NOT passed the module
- Write "REDO " or "AGAIN " on the student's test paper and initial it.
- Helping the student at this point requires your judgment. If the student missed only a few problems, you might encourage the student to try to correct missed problems on their own and then retest. If the student missed a large percentage of the problems, you might help the student find similar practice problems in the book or work with them individually to clear up any questions. The way you handle each situation will vary depending on the student and how busy you are at the time.
- Put the test paper AND scratch paper in the student's folder.
- Put the student's folder back in the file box.
- If a module test is NOT passed by the SECOND time, the student must talk with the professor BEFORE attempting a third test.
Other PSI policies
-
Borrowing a book: Students may check out a textbook and/or modules from the Library. An LMC Student ID card is needed.
-
Testing outside of class: students may take a module test in the math testing room. If their professor is not on duty, students may not take a module test more than once on any given day in the testing room. If the student has previously attempted a module test two or more times and did not pass, they cannot take another form in the testing room unless their professor is on duty or gives written permission.
