Corrected 10/01/07
Attendance:
Michael, Poku, Nick K., Myra, Tue, Clint R., Erich, Jeannine, Julie V.
Corrections to 09/17/07 minutes:
Announcements:
- Michael and Tue rewrote the Math 25 final exam.
- We want to get textbook and LMC activity recommendations out ASAP, but Jeannine has not received any Math 4 books to look at yet, and we have not had much opportunity to look at new CAI.
- This Friday 09/28 is a holiday (but not Saturday)
- Tue will be teaching AVID Math 25 in Spring 2008 (and the Math 30 that A’kilah was teaching will not be AVID).
Student drop feedback:
- Michael got a list of students (with email addresses) who dropped after the WX date.
- Michael asked David Belman about the phrasing of the questions that we will use. Michael will ask Humberto Sale, too.
- We will email and follow up with phone calls, to avoid voluntary response bias.
Math 4 Teaching Community:
- Jeannine proposed a Math 4 teaching community beginning in Spring 2008.
- How would a Math 4 teaching community fit in to the larger math basic skills conversation (e.g. study skills, CAI, projects)?
- Math 4 has the most contact hours for the amount of mathematics it covers of any of our basic skills courses, so Math 4 gives us the most flexibility in curriculum.
- Items to include in teaching community:
- Profile of students
- Study skills stragies
- Teaching to DSP&S students
- Final assessment, including final exam assessment.
- Jeannine proposes that we form DE learning communities in consecutive semesters (e.g. 12 Ã 25, 25 Ã 30)
CAHSEE prep courses
- Erich propsed that we offer CAHSEE prep courses (CCC ACSKL 804N or a similar course) in lieu of math 12, 25, or 30. Many questions remain unanswered: will management agree? Can we offer this in time? Non credit or not-for credit? etc.
