Discuss Unit 4 (75 minutes)

This will  be the last chance for another great lesson study!  The topic it quadratic functions.  We only have 2 weeks so we are looking for a 2-3 major themes we wish students to understand. Here's the plan.

  1. We will look at the course outline of record and the final exam to understand what the department envisions a student in Math 25 should know about quadratic functions Math25CourseOutline.DOC
  2. We will make a list of themes based on our observations
  3. Then we will add our own themes
  4. We will look at Unit 4 Activities 1 and 2 and assess which themes are adequately covered and which are not
  5. Then we will add/change/enhance the curriculum as a group!

 

The discussion went fabulously well!  We split up roles to radically improve Unit 4.

Stipends for Next Semester (If time)

Next semester, I would like to have stipends for specific tasks (an effective learning webpage, 2 fully documented lesson studies, etc) instead or in addition to weekly meetings.  I'd like to discuss this concept and see if there is interest.

Stipend Ideas

  1. Interview study with any FA09 students
    1. How has the classshaped the student as a learner?
    2. How has the class increased positive academic identity
    3. Compare their experience with other math classes
  2. More web pages
    • Finish off the SLOs
  3. Videography
    • Intervie students before during and after Math 25
 
 

  Homework

  • Everyone will continue working on their electronic portfolio pieces
  • Mara will do U4A2, Tue will do U4A3, and Weijian and Robert will do U4A4
